Instructors
Southern
Country Charlotte is proud to announce that we
have lined up a great slate of fabulous dance
instructors for Queen City Stomp 2010. We are
very happy to have three great visiting
instructors returning again this year, and two
nationally-known hometown instructors: |
|
Don
Curran

Don, from
Houston, Texas, is the current Director of Dance
for the International Association of Gay/Lesbian
Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC). He is a
member of the Rainbow Ranglers in Houston, and
is a dance instructor/choreographer specializing
in couple’s country dancing, line dancing, and
west coast swing. He has planned dance workshops
for the IAGLCWDC annual and semi-annual
conventions for the past several years. He is
also a member of the South West Whip Club in
Houston, and takes lessons in west coast
swing. He has been taking lessons since 2005
from Debbie and Angel Figueroa to compete pro-am
on the swing circuit and has worked with a
variety of other professionals including Vicki
Dunn and Rowdy Dufrene. Don has won in several
couples divisions on the gay rodeo circuit and
with IAGLCWDC. He has taught line and couples
at many mainstream UCWDC and ACDA events, as
well as local IAGLCWDC hoedowns such as
Montreal’s Sweetheart Stomp, San Francisco’s
Stompede, and Southern Country Houston’s
Sweethearts in Texas; and has taught at Southern
Country Charlotte’s Queen City Stomp for the
past several years. |

Pepper Sharpe

Pepper, from
Atlanta, Georgia, has been dancing for 10 years
and teaching for 8. She started dancing when
she saw Southern Line Atlanta perform at
Hoedowns bar in Atlanta one Christmas and
immediately became a member and has been dancing
ever since. She has won several team awards as
a member of Southern Line Atlanta (SLA),
including 1st place in team competition in
Montreal, and 2nd place in the 2008 and 2009
IAGLCWDC annual team competitions. Pepper has
also won several 1st and 2nd place awards in
line dance competition over the years at
IAGLCWDC conventions. She has helped
choreograph several exhibitions for SLA and
will be performing one of the exhibitions with
other SLA members at the Queen City Stomp this
year. Pepper loves teaching and enjoys helping
someone learn a new step and be able to complete
a dance they have learned. Her passion for
dance is evident in her teaching style and her
presence on the floor! Pepper really enjoys
coming to Charlotte and teaching at the Queen
City Stomp and is happy to be teaching again
this year!

Scott Schrank

Scott, also from
Atlanta, has been line dancing since 1998. What
started off as something to fill time turned
into a true passion, and Scott set out to learn
any and all line dances he could find. He
entered numerous competitions in both IAGLCWDC
and in the “Mainstream” dance world, winning top
awards along with Over-All championships.
Scott’s teaching experience comes from being
both a member of and choreographer for Southern
Line Atlanta since 2000. He has choreographed
over 30 line dances to date, several of which
have been used for IAGLCWDC competitions. Some
of his most popular dances are “Georgia Winder”,
“Global Warming”, “Someday-Someway”, "More Than
Life" and currently “Working It”, which was
chosen this year as one of the Intermediate
dances in IAGLCWDC competitions. A complete
list and select videos of his dances can be
found at
www.ScottSchrank.com. Scott’s biggest joy
is in teaching and seeing fellow dancers getting
excited about a dance they just conquered. If
you ever find yourself in need of someone who
cares and has a true passion for teaching, Scott
is the person to call. |

Scott Cooper
Scott joins
our list of fabulous instructors after a one
year absence and we are so glad to have him
back. Scott is a former musical theatre actor
who relocated from Manhattan to Charlotte in
1997. Since then he has taught ballroom dancing
at all levels, and was the founder of the Havana
Social Club in Cornelius, NC. He is the owner
and President of Evolution Models and Talent in
Charlotte, and is also the Agency Director for
Wilhelmina/Evolution, a full service agency
representing models, actors, and celebrities for
print, TV, commercial, runway, catalog,
promotions, and special events.

great slate of instructors. Dawn is the owner
